OUR HISTORY

Portofino first opened its doors in October 1997 and since then, has been a landmark restaurant to the seaside town of Hartlepool. On 19th February 2018, Noel Stamp, the head-chef since 2000 purchased Portofino from Krimo.

The Bistro-Pizzeria, located on the Historic Quay, overlooks Hartlepool’s iconic landmark, HMS Trincomalee and the popular Marina.

Portofino mixes Italian, Mediterranean and North African cuisines to serve
a delicious combination of Pizzas, Pastas, Fish, Poultry, Steaks and Tagines.

The Happy Hour Menu includes just about every dish in our A La Carte Menu. It is also available all week offering the best value in Hartlepool.

A few of Krimo’s Old Favourites, such as Boureks, Lamb Tagine and Fillet Paesano still feature in Portofino’s Menu.

Noel Stamp

POSITION: HEAD CHEF/ OWNER

Date started July 1999.

Noel trained to be a chef at Middlesbrough college and left after starting his second year to start working at Portofino as a pizza chef, He worked his way up from pizza chef to Head chef in just under 2 years. Noel had always wanted to own his own restaurant and on the 19th February 2018 his dream came true when he purchased Portofino from Krimo and took over the running of one of, or if not, the oldest restaurant in Hartlepool.

Date started July 1999.

Date started January 1997,

Elaine started at Portofino in January 1997 a few months before we opened our doors to fine-tune staff and sort procedures which are still used to this day, A hard working mother of 3 Elaine has been here from the very start and set the bar for longevity at Portofino.

NICOLE CLARK

ASSISTANT MANAGER

Date started November 2005

Nicole started with us at Portofino in November 2005 as a part-time waitress, learning all the skills on the way to becoming assistant manageress, a bright and bubbly girl she prides herself on giving amazing customer service and her loud personality fits perfectly into Portofino’s ambience and atmosphere.

SECOND CHEF

Date started October 2002

Daniel started with us in 2002 as a commis chef in his time he grew and learned skills to work alongside Noel as his second chef, Noel’s right-hand man now for almost 16 years they can communicate without really talking, knowing each other inside out,  he runs the kitchen whilst Noel is not there to the standards our customers have come to expect over the years.

Date started January 2018

Paul started with us in January this year having worked in another busy restaurant as the second chef, Paul came to us wanting to progress further as a chef and learn a completely new style of cookery. Paul has fitted in well to the team and is looking to be here a long time.

Jonjo started with us straight from leaving school to earn some money as a pizza chef, in his time he has worked his way up to learning most sections of the kitchen and become an integral part of the team, a happy cheeky chap he loves a laugh and a joke and practically always has a smile on his face.

AMY FRANK

Date started March 2015

Amy started Portofino in March 2015 as a part time waitress settling in and learning the skills to be able to run shifts on her own. Amy is very driven with a can do attitude and has settled into the team well in her three years of working with us.

At Portofino we have lots more staff who work behind the scene to provide the experience we aim to give, from chefs to front of house to kitchen porters we wouldn’t be here without any of them, we are one big family and long may it continue.
